The Pittsburgh Penguins defeated the Los Angeles Kings 5-1 last night. The Pens built a 3-0 mid-way through the second period and goaltender Alex Nedeljkovic stopped 25 of 26 shots in net. Kevin Hayes opened the Penguins scoring with a power play goal 10 minutes into the game. Sidney Crosby added his 13th goal four minutes later. Evgeni Malkin scored his ninth goal of the season in the second period before the Kings scored on a power play. The Penguins victory snapped the Kings nine-game home win streak.
The Pens won despite missing forward Rickard Rakell, who is their leading scorer. He missed his first game of the season.
The Pens visit the Anaheim Ducks Thursday.
( Their next three games are against the three-worst teams in the Pacific Division. The Penguins do not play a team in a playoff spot until February 4th. )
