Schools in the state system of higher education are seeing another dip in enrollment.
The total student population across the 14 state-sponsored universities in Pennsylvania fell under 90,000 for the first time in more than 30 years.
Officials say that the pandemic’s impact on enrollment finally was realized this year, after some expected it to hurt fall numbers in 2020.
Slippery Rock University’s drop in enrollment was around 5 percent—which was below the average loss for other schools.
The loss of students will also involve a loss of revenue for the state system; an estimated $36 million will be lost due to the enrollment dropping.
