Pennsylvania’s dairy industry continues to remain HPAI-free after testing results for over 20,000 samples were completed.
It’s the first major dairy-producing state to reach this status after setting testing requirements and limits on cattle transport in response to the avian flu.
After testing 22,000 samples, officials haven’t found any cases of bird flu in dairy cattle in the state, but the Department of Agriculture will keep testing bulk milk as a precaution.
Pasteurized milk remains safe to drink, and chicken and eggs are safe to eat as long as they are cooked properly.
