While many believe that traditional homeowners insurance policies will cover flood related damage, Pennsylvania’s Insurance Commissioner Jessica Altman says that’s not always the case.
“Generally you need a separate flood insurance policy, or a specific endorsement or addition to your insurance policy to cover flood insurance,” Altman said.
After the recent wave of storms and with Atlantic hurricane season fast approaching, Altman said it’s important for state residents to consider flood insurance as part of their policy.
The website insurance.pa.gov has information for those exploring flood insurance, including different options to purchase it.
