New mothers at risk for depression after they give birth would benefit from legislation introduced in both the state House and Senate.
The bills would add postpartum depression as an at-risk category under an existing state law benefitting infants and children.
State Senator Camera Bartolotta, who represents residents of Beaver, Washington and Greene counties, says postpartum depression goes beyond the so-called “baby blues” that many mothers experience.
Experts say 1 in 7 women are at risk for postpartum depression.
