The Pittsburgh Pirates defeated the Kansas City Royals 5-0 last night. Johan Oviedo tossed his first complete-game shutout, allowing just two hits. He walked two and struck out five to earn his eighth win of the season. The Bucs had 12 hits in the game, including four for extra bases.
Third baseman Ke’Bryan Hayes went 4-for-4. He has hit safely in 15 of his last 18 games. In 23 games since returning from injury, Hayes is hitting .323.
The Royals host the Pirates again tonight at 8:10pm. Pre-game on WISR begins at 7:45pm.
