State police and health officials are reminding firearm owners about the importance of storing their guns safely.
State health data shows that on average, about 1,600 people in the state die from gunshot wounds each year, with more than 3,000 injured.
Officials say research shows that doing things like safer firearm storage can significantly reduce firearm injuries, especially among youth.
