WPIAL Basketball Playoffs:
–The Knoch boys fell to Avonworth 72-63 in the Class 4A quarterfinals last night. Jackson Bauman led the Knights with 30 points. Avonworth senior Rowan Carmichael led all scorers with 35.
The Knights have still qualified for the PIAA tournament which begins in March.
–The North Catholic boys defeated Deer Lakes 65-51 to reach the Class 4A semifinals this weekend. Jude Rottman was the top-scorer for North Catholic with 20 points. The Trojans will meet Beaver in the semifinal round Saturday. North Catholic has now won nine games in a row, and swept three games against Deer Lakes during the season. Deer Lakes had won the last two Class 3A WPIAL championships.
–Serra Catholic defeated Summit Academy 80-61 in the Class 1A Quarterfinals.
The Mars girls defeated Bethel Park 55-42 in the WPIAL Class 5A quarterfinals. Cecilia Christy led Mars with 20 points. Mars will meet South Fayette Saturday.
In District 10 – the Grove City girls fell to Corry 44-30 in the Class 4A First Round.
