A developer is planning to build another new Dunkin’ coffee and donut restaurant in Butler Township.
The over 1,600 square foot structure will be built on Route 8 South on a property that was formerly the site of a Pizza Hut. The existing Dunkin restaurants in other areas of the county will remain open.
The Butler Township Planning Commission unanimously approved the plans during a meeting Tuesday. Heartland Restaurant Group will own the store along with the Dunkin on North Main Street in the city of Butler and the one at Butler Crossing in Butler Township as well as the newest in the area in Slippery Rock.
The new restaurant will have a drive-thru able to accommodate several vehicles in a waiting line. The facility will also have about 19 parking spaces to allow for eat-in customers.
PennDOT has given approval for entrance and exit to and from the restaurant onto Route 8 in the northern of the two current entrances while the southern will become an exit only. Two new catch-basins will be installed for storm water but existing pipes will be used.
As long as the Butler Township Commissioners grant this project final approval later this month, construction on the new Dunkin is expected to begin around the middle of next year.
