A bill introduced by a local lawmaker is advancing to the desk of Governor Tom Wolf to be signed into law.
The bill authored in part by State Rep. Aaron Bernstine- who represents constituents in Slippery Rock- will allow high school students to obtain real-world experience while still in school.
This legislation establishes a pilot grant program to encourage collaboration between schools and local businesses with the goal of providing work-based learning opportunities for high school students.
Businesses would help design curriculum and invest in equipment so that students could learn trades and obtain certifications.
The program would help familiarize students with options after graduation as well as encourage businesses to offer internships.
