According to ESPN – the Pirates bats were not part of the Major League Baseball fun last night, but the league had a night of offense not seen in 129 years. 12 teams scored double-digit runs. Three games ended 11-10 on the same day for the first time ever.
The Chicago Cubs led the run outburst with a 17-3 win over Washington. Arizona outlasted Atlanta 16-13. San Francisco beat Cincinnati, the Mets topped the White Sox and Kansas City edged Detroit, all by the score 11-10. Elias Sports Bureau said that score had never occurred three times in the same day. The 12 teams tied May 30, 1884 for the second-most double-digit run games in one day. The all-time record is 13 set in July of 1894. Cleveland joined the Dodgers and Twins in defeating opponents with a double-digit run output.
