Mike “Doc” Emrick announced Monday that he is retiring from broadcasting NHL games. The 74-year old Emrick became the primary voice of NHL hockey national broadcasts on NBC and NBCSN. He called 22 Stanley Cup Finals.
In 2011, he became the first member of the media to be inducted into the United States Hockey Hall of Fame.
Early in his professional career – he taught at Geneva College.
Despite growing up in the state of Indiana, he became life-long fan of the Pittsburgh Pirates while listening to broadcasts with the late Bob Prince.
