Additional grower and operator permits have been issued by the state as part of Phase II of the Medical Marijuana Program.
The Wolf Administration issued grower/processer permits to 13 entities.
“In Phase I of the program, we built a framework to give patients access to medical marijuana,” PA Secretary of Health Dr. Rachel Levine said. “In this next phase, Phase II, we are fully implementing the program to expand access to this medication to every part of the state. This medication is vital to Pennsylvanians suffering from one of the 21 serious medical conditions allowed under the law and we need to ensure they have access to it close to their homes.”
Although no permits were issued for grower/processor operations in Butler County, permits were issued to Maitri Genetics for a facility in Pittsburgh and FarmaceuticalRx for a facility in Farrell, Mercer County.
There are 21 conditions that have been approved by the state for treatment with medical marijuana and the state continues to move forward with the roll out of the program that will allow for the continued regulation and administration of this medication.
“We have certified all 12 of the initial grower/processors and nine are actively producing the medicine now,” Levine said. “We have 29 dispensaries throughout Pennsylvania that are able to provide this very important medicine to patients suffering from serious medical conditions in our commonwealth.”
The first legal sale of medical marijuana in Pennsylvania occurred in February in Butler at the CY+ Dispensary, which remains the only facility currently in operation in the county.
