All of the Butler County Soccer teams competing in the PIAA tournament have reached state championship games this weekend. The Mars Boys and Girls, the Seneca Valley Boys and the North Catholic Girls all won their state semifinal matchups Tuesday.
The Mars Girls earned their eighth-straight shutout with a 2-0 win over Mechanicsburg last night. Ellie Coffield scored on a penalty kick 10 minutes into the game – which turned out to be the game-winner, sending the defending state champions back to the 3A title game this Friday. Mars (18-0) will face Villa Joseph Marie (15-0) at 4pm in Hershey, in a match-up of two unbeaten teams.
The Mars Boys defeated Erie Cathedral Prep 2-1 last night at Mars high school to make its first trip to the state final since 2007. The Planets (20-0) will meet Northern York (19-0-1) in the 3A title game Friday at 6:30pm.
