Administrators at the Mars Area School District are moving forward with a corrective action plan after mold was found at the elementary school last month.
A representative from an air testing company provided an update on the situation during Tuesday’s Mars school board meeting.
Mold growth was initially discovered in the air filtration system in the Mars Elementary School after students and teachers complained of a foul odor. However, the most recent tests show levels of mold spores are actually lower inside the building then in the outside air, leading the expert to say the building is safe for students and staff.
Administrators are soliciting bids from companies who clean inside air ducts and plan to schedule that service in the near future. Air quality tests will continue to be done at all of the Mars school buildings and results will be posted to the district’s website.
