A young man is facing several charges connected to an alleged assault of a police officer that occurred last weekend.
According to a criminal complaint filed by the Cranberry Township Police, 19-year-old Charles Groom of Pittsburgh was at a party that was reported for loud music.
Police described Groom as intoxicated and observed him attempt to discard a bag containing Xanax pills into a sink. As an officer began to arrest him, Groom allegedly resisted and hit the officer in the temple with handcuffs before fleeing the room. The officer tackled Groom and wrestled with him until he was restrained.
Around 10 people fled the party and about five were detained. A large amount of alcohol and marijuana paraphernalia was recovered. Groom has been charged with felony aggravated assault as well as corruption of minors, possession of a controlled substance, and resisting arrest.
