Joey Logano drove to victory and his first Nascar Cup Series championship Sunday at Homestead-Miami Speedway. Logano passed defending series champion Martin Truex, Jr. on a restart with 12 laps remaining and pulled away for the win. The championship four finished atop the field with Truex the runner-up, followed by Kevin Harvick and Kyle Busch. It was Logano’s 21st career victory, and the first manufacturer’s championship for Ford since 1991.
Tyler Reddick won the X-finity Series championship Saturday. It was the third JR Motorsports championship in the past five years. Brett Moffitt won the Camping World Truck Series title Friday.
Yesterday, MRN Booth Anchor Joe Moore called his last race. After 35 years with the Motor Racing Network, Joe is retiring. He is a broadcaster’s broadcaster, mastering the trade in the Army where he also found his love of racing. While serving in Thailand, one of his duties was running the control board and inserting base announcements over the network commercials during Motor Racing Network broadcasts. Moore began as a turn announcer in 1983, setting the standard for those that came after him. In 2001, Joe joined legendary MRN broadcaster Barney Hall in the booth.
