A local man is among those volunteers helping with the relief efforts in the aftermath of Hurricane Dorian in Florida.
Robert Gurkweitz of Cranberry Township is one of 13 American Red Cross volunteers from Western Pennsylvania to be deployed to Florida. These people will help with logistics, reunification, health services, sheltering, and feeding those affected by the storm in Florida.
Depending on the storm path and severity, more volunteers could be sent out. Truckloads of kitchen supplies, ready-to-eat meals, and shelter supplies are also in position to be available when needed.
Those interested in making a difference for those affected by Hurricane Dorian can log onto redcross.org, call 1-800-RED-CROSS, or text the word DORIAN to 90999 to make a $10 donation. There is also an emergency need for blood donations due to an ongoing summer shortage.
