A temporary repair is in place for a large local pothole with a permanent solution planned for the near future.
Many local residents have recently been dealing with a large pothole on Whitestown Road near the intersection with Meridian Road in Butler Township. At least three people have broken a wheel as a result of the hole and others had to swerve into the other lane to avoid the hole.
A PennDOT representative said Tuesday that the hole was being filled by crews that day with a “hot mix” to prevent additional damage to vehicles. PennDOT has to coordinate with the gas company on a long-term solution. The work is not expected to necessitate a road closure.
The problem is believed to have been a result of when PennDOT crews installed a drain pipe and did not divert water resulting in a low spot. The instillation of an inlet and permanent patch could take place by the end of the week.
