A government shutdown was avoided over the weekend, just hours before the deadline.
Congress passed a bill that will fund the government at current spending levels for the next 45 days, which is also known as a continuing resolution.
The bill drew bipartisan support, with all local lawmakers voting in favor of the funding plan.
Republican Congressman Mike Kelly said, “In negotiations like this, no deal is perfect. But shutting down the government should be a last resort.”
Both Democratic Pennsylvania Senators Bob Casey and John Fetterman both voted in favor of the plan as well.
“Common sense prevailed to keep the government open and avoid the unnecessary hardship a shutdown would have put on Pennsylvania families,” Casey said in a statement. He also added that “Though House Republicans would not support additional funding for Ukraine in this deal, we must immediately work in a bipartisan manner to support the courageous Ukrainian soldiers and people.”
