A new program operated by a local agency has provided water skills and confidence to dozens of kids this summer.
MHY Family Services launched a Therapeutic Swim Program has helped over 45 kids master basic swim skills over the past several weeks.
Only two had any formal swim instruction and a few had to overcome past trauma involving water-related incidents. Now almost all can go underwater without plugging their nose. Most have learned at least one stroke and can swim 15 feet without touching the pool floor.
In addition to potentially saving lives, this educational program provides a therapeutic outlet for relaxation, fitness, and well-being.
