Officials in neighboring Lawrence County have instituted a temporary ban on burning.
The Lawrence County Board of Commissioners passed a resolution at a recent special meeting to enact the county-wide ban on burning for a period of 30 days.
This was done at the request of multiple fire chiefs and with the support of the PA Department of Conservation and Natural Resources as a result of abnormally dry moderate drought status.
The use of propane or gas stoves, charcoal briquet grills, or tobacco in any form is not part of the ban. Violators could be fined from $100 to $300 depending on the offense.
The ban will automatically expire December 7th unless conditions do not improve and the Lawrence County Commissioners choose to extend it.
