Among the bills awaiting lawmakers when they return in the fall is a measure dealing with retirement security.
The bill would allow employers to set up IRA-style retirement accounts, with a small portion of an employee’s salary deducted each pay period and placed into an account managed by the state.
It’s sponsored by Representative Mike Hanna, who says lack of retirement savings is a serious issue.
Supporters also point to national figures which estimate the average American in their 50s has less than $6,000 saved for retirement, and 50 percent of Americans as a whole have no retirement savings at all.
