We typically hear a travel report from AAA ahead of a holiday weekend, but the travel agency has stayed away from making a Labor Day prediction for the past couple of years.
However, AAA spokesman Jim Garrity says traffic will still be heavier than normal.
“Whether or not, it’s going to be a widely traveled holiday weekend or not, you should expect more travel,” Garrity said. “It’s the last weekend of the summer unofficially. In the travel world, it’s where we see a lot people use up their extra vacation days, or enjoy the summer weather while it still lasts.”
Garrity also advises to check-in with your destination before leaving, especially in the wake of Hurricane Ida.
“Make sure you are well aware of the situation on the ground there. Not just with the storm itself, but with the residual effects. Things like power outages, roads that were blocked or decreased access to places, and maybe even decreased access to your hotel. Make sure you’re on the phone with your travel advisor about that.”
Garrity also said there could be a slight rise in gas prices as more cars hit the road this weekend.
