The Knoch baseball team defeated Montour 3-0 Thursday afternoon in the PIAA quarterfinals. Knoch junior pitcher Cole Shinsky allowed six hits over seven innings, five of the hits never left the infield. He struck out six. The game was played at West Mifflin high school. Over their past four playoff games, Shinsky and junior Alex Stobert have not allowed an earned run. The Knights have advanced to the semi-final round and will meet Donegal who eliminated West Allegheny 6-1 Thursday. The game will be played Monday at Mt. Aloysius College in Cresson at 4pm..
Shaler has advanced into the state semi-finals in Quad-A. In Double-A, Neshannock and Quaker Valley will meet in the semi-finals. All other WPIAL teams have been eliminated.
Also advancing to the PIAA semi-finals will be the Deer Lakes softball team who defeated Everett 8-3 Thursday.
Hempfield and Trinity are the other WPIAL survivors who have reached the PIAA semi-finals.
