The naming rights for Butler’s ballpark will benefit the community while memorializing a local resident and athlete. The City of Butler Parks, Recreation Grounds and Facilities Authority approved a contract that will result in the name Michelle Krill Field at Historic Pullman Park.
Local business owner Shaun Krill remembers his wife, “She was a fitness instructor at Butler Health and Fitness, she played basketball at the Y, we played in softball tournaments. She was very athletic and no matter what it was, she did it 110% and she was all about family and helping people and giving back to people. This time last year, she got diagnosed with liver cancer; we lost that battle.”
2001 Moniteau graduate Michelle Krill passed away in June at the age of 35. Shaun is the owner of Krill Recycling on Route 422 in Fenelton. The couple has three young children.
The naming rights contract is for five years at an annual cost of $20,000 paid quarterly. A plaque will be installed in the entrance so visitors can remember this local wife, mother, and friend as the agreement benefits the community.
“My way of honoring my wife is by giving back. I think that ballpark can bring people together and that’s what I want to see and that’s what I want to try to do is help it in any way that I can, not just with baseball but with concerts and car shows and anything that brings people together and to give back is what I want.”
The agreement with Shaun does not place any other restrictions on advertising that can be done at the park and in fact, Krill Recycling has also donated 10 televisions to the park that will be placed in suites, the VIP lounge and in the café store. Butler’s ballpark will continue to be known as Kelly Automotive Park through the end of December.
