High School Sports Results from Tuesday:
Soccer:
–The Karns City Girls defeated Clearfield 3-0 in the Class 2-A District-9 championship game last night at Brockway high school. Haley Scherer scored twice for Karns City. Hannah Knoll added the other goal. Cambree Power recorded the shutout in the net. The Gremlins won their second straight District-9 title. It was their 20th title over the past 23 seasons. The Lady Gremlins will open the PIAA playoffs against the WPIAL champion November 7th. Freedom and Waynesburg are playing for that championship tonight in Pittsburgh. Karns City defeated Clearfield last year for the title, by the same score.
–The Karns City Boys lost to St. Mary’s 3-1 in the boys D9 title game last night. The loss snapped a three-year run of D9 champioships for the Gremlins.
WPIAL Girls Volleyball quarterfinals:
4A:
–Seneca Valley defeated Oakland Catholic 3-0. The Raiders will face Armstrong Thursday in the semifinals.
–Armstrong defeated Upper St. Clair 3-2.
–North Allegheny ousted Peters Township 3-0. They meet Hempfield Thursday.
3A:
–Knoch defeated Elizabeth Forward 3-0. The Knights will get Thomas Jeffeson Thursday in the semifinals.
2A:
–Freeport defeated Deer Lakes 3-0. The Yellow Jackets will meet Serra Catholic Thursday.
District-9 quarterfinals:
–AC Valley defeated North Clarion 3-0. Josey Terwilliger had 17 kills for the unbeaten Falcons, who move on to the District-9 semifinals Thursday against Coudersport. Coudersport is the defending 1A champions, and defeated Ridgeway 3-1 last night.
The Slippery Rock University Women’s Soccer team were eliminated from the PSAC tournament following a 2-1 loss to East Stroudsburg in the quarterfinals Tuesday. The Rock finished their season 10-6-1, their 20th consecutive season with at least 10 victories.
The Slippery Rock University field hockey team’s 2017 season came to end Tuesday in a 5-0 loss to No. 2 East Stroudsburg University in the first round of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Tournament.
Slippery Rock concludes the season with an overall record of 10-9, its first winning season since 1998. The 10 wins are tied for the second most victories in a single-season in program history.
