The Pittsburgh Pirates defeated the Baltimore Orioles 7-5 Thursday when third baseman Jung Ho Kang hit a walk-off grand slam in the ninth inning. It was Kang’s sixth home run of the spring. When outfielder Starling Marte was a late scratch because of back stiffness, the Pirates gave the start in center field to 21-year old minor leaguer Jonah Davis, who homered twice.
Chris Archer started the game for the Bucs, and allowed three runs on four hits. He pitched into the fourth inning, striking out six.
The Pirates play Tampa Bay today. The Bucs play split-squad games Saturday, including a final game in Bradenton against Philadelphia. They will break camp Sunday after a game with Baltimore and head to Houston for their final two exhibition games Monday night and Tuesday afternoon. Their regular season begins in Cincinnati Thursday.
