John Lennon’s Guitar Sells For $2.9 Million At Auction

John Lennon’s 12-string acoustic guitar that he – and George Harrison –  used while the Beatles were recording Help! and Rubber Soul has just been sold by Julien’s Auctions house for a record $2.9 million. The guitar had apparently been lost for 50 years, before being unexpectedly found in an attic of an English house, still kept in its original guitar case. The guitar was authenticated for Julien’s Auctions by Beatles historians Andy Babiuk and Danny Bennett. You can see Lennon playing the guitar during “You’ve Got to Hide Your Love Away” in the film Help! The auction took place at the Hard Rock Cafe in Times Square in New York City, and the $2,857,500 final price of Lennon’s guitar makes it the most expensive musical instrument by the Beatles ever sold.
