Today is the 243rd birthday of the United States of America and many government agencies and businesses will be closed.
All Pennsylvania Department of Transportation drivers’ license and photo centers are closed today but motorists can still obtain a variety of products online. There are no additional fees for using online services.
Even though today is not one of the busier travel days on the PA Turnpike, all maintenance and construction projects have been suspended through Sunday. A link to travel tools and tips can be found on PATurnpike.com under Ramp Up for Summer Travel.
The Butler County Symphony Association is closed today however their free summer concert series continues Friday at noon. The Folk/Americana group Harmony Hot Haus will perform at the Symphony Office across from Diamond Park in Butler.
The city of Butler will set off fireworks at dusk tonight.
Zambelli Fireworks of Warrendale will put on the show from the Michelle Krill Field at Historic Pullman Park.
The city has historically put on an annual fireworks display- but there were some concerns this year it wouldn’t happen, or it would be a smaller show than usual. But, in June, several companies donated money towards the display.
The city says they received over $15,000 in donations and will use it to put on a show similar in size to past years.
The Big Butler Fair will also set off fireworks at dusk tonight.
Shively Fireworks of Karns City will put on the show from the fairgrounds off Route 422 beginning at dusk.
Other events planned this evening include truck pulls at 6 p.m., a celebrity milking contest at 7 p.m., and a free giant sundae at 8 p.m.
This is the 164th year for the fair, which continues through Saturday.
