Butler County Common Pleas Court Judge Marilyn Horan officially begins work this week on the federal bench.
Horan is the first county judge to ever advance to the federal level. She will serve as a U.S. District Court Judge for the Western District of Pennsylvania. Her first day is Tuesday.
She had served as a Butler County judge for 22 years.
Beginning this week, Judge William Shaffer will serve as the Administrative Judge of the Court of Common Pleas of Butler County, which had been Horan’s responsibility up until this point. That appointment is made by the Pennsylvania Supreme Court.
