The Seneca Valley Boys and Girls Soccer teams won WPIAL championships Saturday. For the Raiders Boys, it was their first-ever championship. They defeated Norwin 5-2 to capture the 4A title. Luke Rupert scored twice for the Raiders.
The Seneca Valley Girls defeated Peters Township 2-1 in overtime to claim their fifth WPIAL championship.
The Knoch Girls Volleyball team defended their WPIAL 3A championship with a 3-0 win over Thomas Jefferson.
The North Catholic Girls Volleyball team defeated Frazier 3-0 to win their first 2A championship.
North Allegheny won the 4A title with a 3-0 win over Baldwin.
The PIAA tournament in soccer and volleyball begins Tuesday.
Knoch tennis player Laura Greb finished fourth in the state championship Saturday.
The Seneca Valley football team will visit North Allegheny Friday in the WPIAL 6A semifinals. The Raiders defeated Central Catholic Friday 15-14 in the quarterfinal round. After falling behind 14-0 early in the game, Seneca Valley scored 15 unanswered points.
Pine-Richland will host Mt. Lebanon. Both games kick-off at 7:30pm.
North Catholic will face Derry Friday in the 3A semifinals. The Trojans defeated Quaker Valley 31-24 in the quarterfinals.
Mars fell to Woodland Hills in the 5A first round 14-0 Friday.
Moniteau defeated Clarion 20-14 Friday in the District-9 2A quarterfinals. The Warriors had two defensive touchdowns in the game. They meet Ridgway in the semifinals.
AC Valley/Union fell 28-0 to Smethport in the 1A quarterfinals.
In District-10:
Slippery Rock crushed Harbor Creek 44-3. The Rockets rushed for 270 yards in the game and improved to 7-3.
Grove City topped Girard 48-7. Brady Callahan threw for 240 yards and five touchdowns, four of them to tight end Logan Lutz. Grove City improved to 10-0 and will meet Slippery Rock in the semifinals.
