High School Sports:
WPIAL Boys Soccer Playoffs:
4A:
–Seneca Valley defeated Canon-McMillan 3-2 to reach the WPIAL championship game. A.J. Mills scored the game-winner for the Raiders. Jackson Wotus and Tanner Howard scored the other Seneca Valley goals. The Raiders will face Norwin in the title game.
3A:
–Mars fell to West Allegheny 4-3 in a shoot-out. The Planets lost the shoot-out 4-3 and will now face Thomas Jefferson in the WPIAL consolation game Thursday. T.J. lost to Franklin Regional 5-1 last night. The winner of Thursday’s game will advance into the state playoffs.
WPIAL Girls Volleyball quarterfinals:
4A:
–North Allegheny-3 Butler-0. (scores were: 25-14, 25-16 and 25-21.) Maria Lucas led Butler with seven kills. Julia Gibson had six kills and five blocks. Sophia Lucas had three kills, one ace and 19 digs. Tabitha Walker added 16 assists and five digs.
–Pine-Richland-3 Norwin-2. The Rams will face Baldwin in the semifinals Wednesday. N.A. will meet Oakland Catholic.
Tonight in the 3A quarterfinals:
–Knoch will face Kiski Area at North Allegheny high school at 7:30pm. North Catholic will meet Derry at N.A. at 6pm in the 2A quarterfinals.
–Freeport will face Seton La Salle at North Catholic high school at 6pm in the 2A quarterfinals.
Hockey:
–Freeport defeated Deer Lakes 7-6 in overtime. Slade Ohl scored the game-winning goal for the Yellow Jackets in the overtime. It was one of two goals he had in the game. Alex Colflesh led Freeport with a hat-trick and also had three assists for a six point night. David Gaspersic had the other two Freeport goals.
