WPIAL Basketball playoffs:
–The Butler Boys defeated Upper St. Clair 75-70 Saturday in the 6A quarterfinals. Ethan Morton led all scorers with 32 points. Morton was 17 of 18 from the free-throw line. Butler will get a rematch with section-rival Pine-Richland in the semifinals Wednesday. The Rams defeated Peters Township 66-64 in their quarterfinal game Saturday. Hear the game with Tyler Friel from Fox Chapel high school beginning at 7:50pm on WBUT. Tip-off is 8pm.
Tickets for that game will be on sale at the Butler Athletic office beginning Tuesday morning through Wednesday at 3pm for the game.
–The Knoch Boys fell to Quaker Valley 49-43 in the 4A quarterfinals. Julian Sanks led the Knights with 15. Knoch can still reach the state tournament if Quaker Valley goes on to win the WPIAL 4A title.
–Tonight: The North Catholic Boys and Girls are part of a doubleheader tonight at North Allegheny high school. The North Catholic Girls will meet Elizabeth Forward in the 4A semifinals at 6pm. The North Catholic Boys will face Aliquippa tonight at 8pm in the 3A semifinals.
–Tuesday, the Mars Boys will meet Chartiers Valley in the 5A semifinals. Tip-off is 8pm at Fox Chapel high school.
The Portersville Christian Boys won the Southwest Christian Athletic Conference chammpionships Saturday at Geneva College, defeating Cornerstone Prep 78-65 in overtime.
Seneca Valley diver Kenzie Clark finished third in the WPIAL 3A championships Saturday at North Allegheny high school. Clark advances to the PIAA championships.
Four Seneca Valley wrestlers and one Mars wrestler won WPIAL Section-3 championships Saturday.
Two Butler Boys brought home medals from the indoor Track and Field Championships Sunday in central Pennsylvania. Jack Codispot was fifth in the pole vault. Sami Taoufik medaled in the high jump. The Girls 4×800 relay team of Chesna Tomko, Gabby Boden, Chelsey Kabel and Liz Simms medaled with a fifth place finish.
