WRESTLING
The Butler wrestling team was upset last night 32-31 by Hempfield in the Quarterfinal Round of the WPIAL Playoffs. The Golden Tornado defeated Peters Township 41-26 in the First Round. The #11-seed Spartans had upset the #6 seed Trinity 32-31 via a tiebreaker in the opening round.
BASKETBALL
Moniteau boys basketball defeated Laurel 61-42. Ayden Jackson, Colton Thomas, and Andrew Zepeda all scored 12 points each.
Karns City boys improved to 15-3 on the season after a 64-55 win at North Clarion. Taite Beighly paced the Gremlins with 15.
Butler girls basketball hosts North Allegheny tonight. Tip off at 7:30 p.m. Seneca Valley travels to Pine Richland.
Knoch girls are on the road taking on Greensburg-Salem. North Catholic faces Valley on the road.
BOWLING
The Butler high school bowlers swept North Allegheny Wednesday 7-0 in their final section match of the season.
The Golden Tornado boys were led by Rocco Rice who shot a 708 series with a high game of 246. Alex Ekas added a 697 series and high game of 238. Luke Keene had a 630 series and high game of 236. The Butler Boys were a perfect 10-0.
The Golden Tornado girls were led by Kelsee McConnell who rolled a 597 series with a high game of 214. Natalie Coughenour added a 556 series with a high game of 210. Makenzie Zimmerman rolled a high game of 206. The Butler girls ended the regular season 8-2.
Both teams will next compete in the WPIBL Championships the third and fourth week of February.
The Freeport bowlers swept St. Joseph’s Wednesday. The Yellow Jacket girls won 7-0 led by Julia Cummings who rolled a 677 series with a high game of 245. Freeport completed their regular season 10-0.
The Yellow Jacket boys won 5-2 and were led by Colin Cummings who shot a 683 series with a high game of 254. The Freeport boys complete their season 6-4.
