A Grove City man is out thousands of dollars after being scammed via Facebook Messenger.
The 56-year-old man was scammed out of $10,000 after being contacted on Messenger from an “Agent Michael Travis” who did not identify what department he was from.
The “agent” told the man he’s eligible for a $50,000 personal grant. The victim was then told if he paid small fees he’d be given the grant but after sending money five times totaling $10,000 he hadn’t received the money and reported it to the police.
According to investigators, the scammers had a random IP address and were overseas, exhausting all possible leads.
