Widely respected sprint car driver Greg Hodnett was killed last night (Thursday) in an accident at BAPS Speedway in York County, Eastern Pennsylvania. He was 49.
Hodnett was the 1993 World of Outlaws Rookie of the Year and went on to win 20 races on the Outlaws circuit. He was a native of Spring Grove and a member of the “Pennsylvania Posse”.
Last night’s race was not a World of Outlaws event. BAPS Speedway did not resume the race after the accident.
Out of respect for Hodnett and his family, racing at Williams Grove Speedway was cancelled Friday night. Lincoln Speedway in Adams County also cancelled their events.

The wrongful death lawsuit filed against Tony Stewart by the parents of Kevin Ward Jr. has been dismissed by a judge in New York. Ward died after being struck by a car driven by Stewart during a sprint car race at Canandaigua Motorsports Park in 2014. Stewart had previously been cleared of any criminal charges stemming from the incident.
The Monster Energy Cup Series will race Saturday night at Richmond International Raceway. Hear the race on WBUT 1050am and at wbut.com beginning at 6:30pm. Kyle Larson is the defending race winner, while Kyle Busch won the Richmond race earlier this season back in April.
After the first of three races in the post-season opening round, Jimmie Johnson, Chase Elliott, Erik Jones and Denny Hamlin are the first four drivers who would be eliminated from contention. Brad Keselowski has won three races in a row, and has already clinched a spot in the second round.
International Speedway Corporation has announced a new weather protection program for ticket holders at all ISC owned tracks. If a NASCAR event is postponed and rescheduled to a different date due to inclement weather, guests will be able to exchange their paid tickets that were not used on the rescheduled date for a future NASCAR event at any ISC track.
Steve Phelps was named NASCAR President Thursday, assuming the duties that were held by Brent Dewar who is stepping down.
