Basketball hall of famer Bill Walton was one of the best known, and tallest, DeadHeads. Following Walton’s death at the age of 71 on Monday, surviving members of the Grateful Dead took to social media to sing the praises of their longtime fan and friend. Dead drummer Mickey Hart wrote on Instagram, “Bill was my best friend, the best friend I ever had. He was an amazing person, singular, irreplaceable, giving, loving. His love for our music was beyond description. He called himself the luckiest man in the world but it was us who were lucky.” Dead singer Bob Weir honored his dear friend on Instagram: “Yo Bill, thanks for the ride. Thanks for the wonderful friendship. Bon voyage ol’ buddy. We’re sure gonna miss you.” Meanwhile, Grateful Dead offshoot Dead & Company just announced an additional run of six new shows to extend their residency at the Sphere in Las Vegas through early August.
