An oil spill caused four crashes and led to the closure of a portion of Route 228 in Middlesex Township Thursday.
Middlesex Township Police say a box truck experienced engine problems and began to leak motor oil onto Route 228 West about 10 a.m.
The oil made the road extremely slippery, like ice, and four vehicles crashed. No one was hurt.
Firefighters blocked about a half-mile of Route 228 from Route 8 to Park Road as PennDOT spread sand on the oil. Route 228 was reopened about noon.
