Adam Frazier hit a two-out walk-off home run to lead the Pittsburgh Pirates to a 2-1 victory over the Chicago Cubs Sunday afternoon. The Pirates scored just five runs in the series, but ended up with a split over the four games. The Bucs lost 1-0 in Thursday and Friday’s games.
Starting pitcher Jameson Taillon scattered five hits, walking three and striking out eight over his six innings of work. The Pirates bullpen posted five shutout innings in relief.
The victory moved the Pirates back above the .500 mark. They are 5-1/2 games back in the National League Wild Card race. There are five other teams ahead of them in that Wild Card chase.
The Bucs open a three-game series with the Atlanta Braves tonight at 7:05pm. Pre-game on WISR 680am is 6:40pm. The Braves are a half-game in front of Philadelphia for first place in the National League East.
Last night, the New York Mets defeated the Philadelphia Phillies in the annual Major League Baseball Little League Classic game played in Williamsport. It was also announced last night, that the Pirates will face the Chicago Cubs in next year’s classic. The Pirates played in the classic last year.
Sunday at the Little League World Series in Williamsport: South Korea defeated Mexico 5-1. Staten Island, New York defeate Houston 2-1. Japan defeated Panama 4-2 and Honolulu defeated Michigan 8-3.
The Altoona Curve defeated the Portland Sea Dogs 8-2 Sunday to take two of three games in their series. They travel to Binghampton tonight.
