Fox Sports will be airing a virtual NASCAR race on Sunday afternoon in place of the Homestead-Miami NASCAR Cup race that was suspended along with the rest of the season because of the coronavirus. The first race of the online eNASCAR iRacing Pro Invitational Series will include Fox announcing regulars Jeff Gordon, Mike Joy and Larry McReynolds. iRacing currently runs several full-season eSports racing series. Kyle Busch, Joey Logano, Chase Elliott and Brad Keselowski are among the drivers entered in Sunday’s race, which will take place on a digital reproduction of Homestead-Miami speedway. The competitors will use “rigs” set up at their homes with steering wheels, pedals, shifters and screens. The plan is to run a weekly race until the NASCAR season resumes, but Fox Sports hasn’t yet said if it will carry future events.
