The Florida Panthers defeated the Edmonton Oilers 2-1 last night to win their first Stanley Cup. Edmonton’s Connor McDavid became just the second skater to win the Conn Smythe Trophy as the playoff MVP, despite being on the losing team. There have been four goaltenders honored in a losing effort. McDavid scored 42 points in the post-season to lead all scorers. He was five points away from Wayne Gretzky’s playoff record of 47 set in 1985. McDavid was held scoreless in the last two games.
