West central Butler County is under a Flash Flood Warning through Thursday night.
The National Weather Service Office in Pittsburgh issued the warning at 11:30 a.m. Thursday due to flooding near Portersville at Muddy Creek.
“At 11:32 a.m., the river gauge north of Portersville with the outflow at Muddy Creek from Lake Arthur showed that flooding was occurring,” according to the National Weather Service.
Additional rainfall is expected this afternoon. Locations that will likely experience flooding include Prospect, West Liberty, Portersville, Moraine State Park and Cooper’s Lake Campground.
The rest of Butler County remains under a Flash Flood Watch through 8 p.m.
A Flash Flood Warning and Flash Flood Watch are different. A warning means flooding is imminent or actually happening. A watch means conditions are right for flash flooding to occur.
