With the extreme cold settling in today and throughout the weekend, AAA is reminding homeowners to properly prepare for the winter weather. Frigid temperatures for a prolonged period can wreak havoc on a home’s heating system, plumbing, and exterior features.
AAA offers a few tips to help avoid disaster this weekend…
– Let faucets drip to prevent freezing pipes
– Make sure to let excess water out of lines that lead to exterior faucets
– Remove hoses from the outside faucets
– Keep bathroom and kitchen cabinet doors open to let warm air circulate
“As winter begins, homeowners and renters should be proactive in making sure their residence is ready for cold weather,” Jonathon King, vice president of insurance sales, AAA East Central, said. “By taking measures to ensure a home’s interior and exterior are prepared for frigid temperatures, high repair costs and headaches can be avoided.”
