More than 269 pounds of pills were collected in Butler County alone on Saturday during “National Prescription Drug Take Back Day.”
The annual event is held in communities nationwide in an effort to get people to clean their medicine cabinets of unused and expired prescription drugs. Experts say if pills can’t be found, they can’t be abused.
Four local collections were held in Butler County on Saturday. The Butler City Police Department collected 90 pounds of pharmaceuticals. The Butler County Sheriff’s Department collected 179 pounds of drugs at their locations.
Even though ‘Drug Take Back Day’ has passed, officials remind residents many police departments collect unused prescription drugs throughout the year. The Butler City Police Department has a turn-in box in the lobby of their department on West New Castle Street.
