Doug Ingle, Iron Butterfly Singer and Organist, Dead At 78

Doug Ingle, a founding member of the hard rock band Iron Butterfly, died on Friday at the age of 78. Ingle was Iron Butterfly’s singer and organist, and was the last surviving member of the band’s classic lineup. Ingle also co-wrote the band’s best known hit, the sprawling, 17-minute psych-rock classic, “In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida” Of the four musicians in the group’s “In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida” lineup, Ingle was the only one who was a founding member, forming Iron Butterfly in San Diego in 1966. Ingle’s son, Doug Ingle Jr., confirmed his father’s death on Facebook on Friday: “It’s with a heavy heart & great sadness to announce the passing of my Father Doug Ingle. Dad passed away peacefully this evening in the presence of family.” No cause of death has been shared at this time. (Blabbermouth)
