A plan to update the wastewater treatment system in Cranberry Township is coming in with costs higher than expected.
The price for updates to the Brush Creek Treatment Plant is now estimated at $42 million, around $6 million over the initial plan.
Township Manager Dan Santoro says the increase is due to higher prices in construction.
“In talking with the engineers, they’re suggesting that some of the increase might be as a result of the national market,” Santoro said. “Contractors might be pricing in a little bit of risk into the bid.”
Possible options to meet the project funding include raising rates, cutting parts of the project, or seeking more funding.
A final decision is expected to be made during the Thursday night board meeting. The project is still expected to be completed in 2027.
