A pay dispute between assistants of elected row officers at the county was subject to a long discussion at yesterday’s county commissioners meeting.
The county’s salary board, composed of the three commissioners and county controller Ben Holland, heard arguments from the heads of the county’s treasurer, recorder of deeds, clerk of courts, and prothonotary’s offices.
They made a pitch to have their deputies salary increased, arguing that their employees have earned a raise and that the current structure doesn’t provide the necessary incentives.
While members of the salary board were open to the discussion, a recently adopted salary policy was cited as a reason to vote down the raise.
The back-and-forth between row offices and the salary board has been ongoing since March.
