Butler County Commissioner Kevin Boozel wasn’t wearing his usual suit-and-tie during Wednesday’s commissioners’ meeting, instead he was wearing a sweatshirt to pay tribute to a local firefighter.
East Butler volunteer firefighter Zac Hack was seriously injured this summer in a swimming pool accident. He broke vertebrae in his neck and suffered a severe spine contusion. He was partially paralyzed and continues to recover.
Commissioner Boozel donned a sweatshirt with the words ‘Hack’s Heroes.’ He noted he wanted to show support for Zac, but also the community that came together following the accident- $13,000 has been raised for Zac via a GoFundMe account. Other fundraising events have been held as well.
“I told him I’d wear his sweatshirt to a public meeting,” Booze said with a chuckle. “But really, this is about the community coming together- and we have a lot of that here in Butler County.”
Boozel is a volunteer firefighter himself.
