Butler County’s Clearview Mall is not worth as much as it used to be, and it shows on the tax rolls.
The Clearview Mall Association recently appealed their current assessed value of $32 million.
During a meeting on Wednesday, the Butler County board of commissioners approved the mall’s new fair market value of $15 million, meaning the county will lose about $52,000 in tax money.
The Butler Area School District will stand to lose even more- roughly $200,000 in tax revenue.
Chairman of the board of commissioners Leslie Osche equated that number to two or three teachers.
“This has an impact,” Osche said Wednesday.
The Butler County Assessment Department generates the property tax bills for the county, municipalities and school districts. Butler County was last reassessed, as a whole, in 1969.
